The success of VisusNano lies in our diverse skill mix. Our team has expertise in drug delivery development, ophthalmic surgery, clinical trials and project management. An ophthalmologist and a veterinary ophthalmologist are integral to the team and ensure that the developed product is fit for their end-users.



Joanna Gould

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Joanna obtained her PhD in developmental Neuroscience at the University of Southampton. After her MRes Joanna had a career change and went into corporate banking at Bank of America before deciding to come back to science. Joanna has also worked in research and development at an SME.

Philip Alexander

CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER

Philip is a consultant ophthalmologist specialising in cataract and retinal surgery. His doctoral thesis studied innovative techniques for retinal transplantation. Philip has a strong background in research, and has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers. He has an interest in partnerships between academia, industry and healthcare and his MBA thesis focussed on healthcare innovation.

Darren Pitt

CHIEF SCIENTIFIC OFFICER

Darren completed his PhD titled “Design of polymer systems and surface-active agents for the improvement of cell attachment for treatment of ocular diseases”. Darren is currently the CSO of VisusNano having previous managerial roles in solvent recycling and large scale pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Tom Kemp

Chief technology officer

With over 14 years of experience in medical injector systems and holds a PhD in MEMS Technology and a Master of Engineering from the University of Birmingham, and has been named as lead on over 50 patents in the field.

Tom applies his expert knowledge of drug delivery devices, parenteral drug delivery, risk assessment, tolerance analysis, process capability, manufacturing processes, and transport validation to establish robust design solutions. He also provides technical leadership and cross-functional interaction with QA, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical, Commercial, and Manufacturing functions.

Paul Rosen

NON EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Paul Rosen completed Medical training at Manchester University before a specialist training at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Registered with the General Medical Council as a Specialist in Ophthalmology, Paul Rosen then accepted a position as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Oxford Eye Hospital in 1993. He was Head of Department from 1998 to 2004 and performs over 1000 cataract/refractive surgical procedures each year between his NHS and private practices. Read more
